Interview: Young OD’s of America on COVID19 and Safe Tonometry Solution with CEO of Diaton Tonometer

Transcription:

Hello my name is Roman Iospa, I’m CEO of the Diaton Tonometer, we’re here at SECO International in Atlanta with top members of Young OD’s of America.

Honored to be here. We actually met earlier we discussed various topics from SECO being here in Atlanta to attendance to also tonometry device that we have which actually enables also to measure independent of the potentially spread of the infection diseases and so on unfortunately as I was traveling to Atlanta New York Airport had not many people flying out and that’s the concern one of the reasons we’re gathered here today is to see how optometry is being affected by the corona virus and how some of the technologies and/or practices can enhance and make patients feel a little safer and as well as practices and people that work there so I would like to introduce Will To to take it from here.

So  hi my name is Will To, I practice in San Mateo California one of the partners of young

OD’s of America and you know I agree with what you’re saying in terms of you

know what’s happening with this corona virus I mean it’s it’s almost

unfortunate that it takes something like this for people to be more aware of how

quickly infectious diseases can spread you know it’s not like a month ago

diseases were okay now this month we have a problem it’s always been a

problem and while there’s always been regulations I think sometimes people can

become a bit lacks in terms of what’s needed to be done in order to prevent

diseases from spreading at a wide scale so you know having I

think opportunities and working with different companies having access to

different equipment where we can do everything we can to protect our

patients is definitely a very important thing. Justin would you mind introducing

yourself for everyone.

Thank you hi my name is Justin Bazan I am from Park

Slope Eye which is in Brooklyn New York a founding member of Young OD’s of

America we’re fortunate enough to be positioned across from each other here

and I was actually learning quite a bit about the importance of how we can help

minimize the spread of infection and utilize safety protocols and take

precautions in our office and also utilize devices that are easily

maintained in a hygienic way without having to throw it in an autoclave and I

appreciate learning more about the Diaton Tonometer because it is one of

those devices that would help simplify that and also make sure it maximizes the

safety that we want to maintain in our offices. One of the other things that I

also learned is somebody who practices with scleral lenses the impact of a scleral lens on intraocular pressure and especially in our glaucoma patients

who are also scleral lens wearers you know what effect are we having on that

pressure and quite honestly the method of measuring IOP that I use just doesn’t

work with the scleral lens. I’m not gonna be able to do it so learning more about how

the Diaton can help me with my scleral patients who have glaucoma or just

learning more about the changes of the pressures that it causes was I was

eye-opening to me. Thank you so much appreciate you sharing your experience

and commenting on sclera lenses. It’s it’s another important topic and

another risk factor which should be paying attention to, unfortunately now it’s kind of got

overshadowed by coronavirus and how we should not as you know practitioners as

well as us kind of mentioning all the time that we minimize the infection

because we’re measuring through the eyelid without touching the mucous membrane with the device now with

everybody all of a sudden pays a little bit more attention to it and I

appreciate you noting that and you know anything you would like you’d

be able to add please.

My name is Kurt Kaupke I practice in New York I own two practices I also work in a cornea and contact lens practice so I improved

familiar with that process we see a lot of patients on a day-to-day basis and we

have to make sure that we are not only keeping ourselves safe but keeping

future patients safe that are going to be in that chair and so that includes

taking care of all the equipment in our

4:42.3

4:46.1

office because a patient’s does that

patient has no idea who was in that

4:46.1

4:50.7

chair before them and so it is something

that we want to be mindful of and make

4:50.7

4:56.7

sure that we’re keeping everyone safe.

Well, I know you also had experience with

4:56.7

5:05.9

the Diaton, we had you tested also I

know you’ll have an implementation of at

5:05.9

5:12.7

least a device or some in some of your

practices. What made you think or what

5:12.7

5:17.2

does the Diaton solve for you if you

were don’t mind just just whatever you

5:17.2

5:21.5

you know came to mind I’d appreciate

your comments so

I’m John Nguyen, I practice in Bronx and Brooklyn I was introduced

to the Diaton today and it was actually

5:25.3

5:31.8

very easy device to use. The one thing

that came to my mind was that I use a

5:31.8

5:35.0

check my pressure with Goldmann, but if

I don’t have to use proparacaine and

5:35.0

5:39.5

tetracaine as often with the rising

cost of proparacaine  tetracaine up to

5:39.5

5:43.7

30 to 60 dollars on a business side of

things you’re looking to Save a LOT of

5:43.7

5:48.2

Money in the long term by using a Diaton and that’s what I learned today now I

5:48.2

5:51.9

will try to take a look at it and implement in my office and see how it goes

5:51.9

5:56.5

That’s that’s great.

Gentlemen unfortunately in today’s day

5:56.5

6:00.5

and age we need to be mindful of any

place that we go let it be the movie

6:00.5

6:07.8

theater let it be me taking my daughter

to the park and I am concerned but other

6:07.8

6:12.5

patients are also concerned just beside

stepping out they but they need medical

6:12.5

6:17.3

care they need eye care

hopefully the you know our technology

6:17.3

6:23.0

will help you to deliver that care and

you know Will,  I know we had a you know a

6:23.0

6:26.6

discussion on that

hopefully you know this this will help

6:26.6

6:31.5

you do what you do best with the

patients and create that confidence

6:31.5

6:37.0

level because we really we need that and

you guys are young young OD’s of

6:37.0

6:42.1

America to deliver and you know

emphasize that message and appreciate

6:42.1

6:46.0

you commenting on that. Anybody would like

to add anything please Will, I know you

6:46.0

6:49.8

always have something great to say

please . I don’t know about that but I

6:49.8

6:53.2

will you know I do I do want to just

touch a little bit more on top of what

6:53.2

6:58.6

you were just saying and honestly you

know as we see the in the news what’s

6:58.6

7:02.4

happening with the Corona virus you know

there’s the the logical side of our

7:02.4

7:05.6

brains are you understand that you know

this isn’t as bad as some of the things

7:05.6

7:08.2

that we have going on you know it’s

really no need to have this widespread

7:08.2

7:12.9

panic but then you know the emotional

side you know sometimes gets in that in

7:12.9

7:17.7

the way and you know what we want to do

is always make sure you know that we in

7:17.7

7:20.4

terms of our patients and their

interactions that we we help them out in

7:20.4

7:24.1

both aspects and that we address both

aspects of it that yes we’re here to

7:24.1

7:27.2

take care of you we are do do have a

sterile environment in our practices we

7:27.2

7:32.4

clean up clean in between every every

patient but also at the same time you

7:32.4

7:37.9

know you know we have we are we are

always doing everything we can to make

7:37.9

7:41.9

sure that we have access to things that

will keep you safe you know you

7:41.9

7:45.9

shouldn’t be scared to go to the doctor

to get sick it’s very important that

7:45.9

7:49.4

during these times if you’re worried or

you have symptoms and you believe you

7:49.4

7:53.4

have it that you do go to the proper

clinician who will take care of you so

7:53.4

7:57.5

the proper clinician is also the one

that has the equipment that will keep

7:57.5

8:00.8

you safe and not potentially caused more

harm that would be the opposite of what

8:00.8

8:05.2

we want to do. So like once again I just

want to just keep addressing the fact

8:05.2

8:09.8

that you know it’s just having it at

having the Diaton as a device that

8:09.8

8:15.1

allows you to to supplement what you

have it doesn’t replace what you

8:15.1

8:18.5

currently have it supplements and gives

you another option for certain patients

8:18.5

8:22.3

that need to have that need to have

their pressure measured in a certain way

8:22.3

8:26.1

or just are uncomfortable with some of

the current methods we have with or

8:26.1

8:31.2

without a virus outbreak that we that we

are currently having so I always

8:31.2

8:34.7

appreciate having more options you know

give putting more tools in my toolbox is

8:34.7

8:39.7

always a good thing as a clinician.

Fantastic fantastic

8:39.7

8:45.5

Justin anyone anyone anyone well guys I

appreciate you sharing your feedback

8:45.5

8:49.7

it’s not just the feedback it’s it’s the

way we think today it’s the way we

8:49.7

8:54.4

practice today we always have patient

care in mind we as a company we try to

8:54.4

8:58.5

innovate we’re also you know we thought

we’re not just a device company we’re

8:58.5

9:02.0

part of the community we’re part of the

society and we want to kind of give back

9:02.0

9:07.7

and get this message across to many that

we as an industry trying to help to

9:07.7

9:11.9

prevent the spread of these you know

diseases out there and hopefully it

9:11.9

9:18.0

passes on and we don’t need to kind of

use these technologies out but I want to

9:18.0

9:23.5

thank the Young OD’s of America you

gentlemen are great I always keep an eye

9:23.5

9:28.5

on you and looking forward to following

you as well so thank you for your time

9:28.5

9:31.1

for being here. Thank you. Thank you.

Take away message: Infection and virus spread prevention is on the Top of everyone’s mind. Eye care industry is preparing for safest ways to continue to provide eye care to their patients. One of the solutions on the market is the Transpalpebral Diaton Tonometer which allows eye care practitioners to safely measure intraocular pressure (IOP) for glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring. Diaton Tonometer enables eye care professionals to measure and monitor IOP through the upper eyelid without touching the mucous membrane or the cornea, with that eliminating the risk of infecting. THROUGH THE EYELID tonometer is being viewed as THE SAFEST solution in preventing Risk of Infection during IOP measuring – in wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. How can transpalpebral tonometer protect patients and practitioners from COVID-19? Please review the video and details here:

Since there is Zero contact with the eye’s mucous membrane – transpalpebral technology has an embedded feature of minimizing Risk of Infection. Diaton is safer than NCT, as a new study suggests suspending the use of NCT given the potential source of micro-aerosol formation. WHO alerted that COVID-19 can aerosolize and live in the air for hours. Affected patients frequently present to eye clinics or emergency departments which may have COVID-19 in tears and conjunctival secretions. That increases the likelihood ophthalmologists may be the first providers to evaluate patients possibly infected with COVID-19. Diaton tonometer is easing concern of possible COVID-19 spread by: 1. Preventing virus spread by not touching a potential COVID-19 infected eye 2. Protecting physician, staff and patient 3. Reassuring the patient that the eye care practice is doing everything possible to protect by using technologies not touching the eye.

Join our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWzipjFv8ToVW7gXUrUBgyA Diaton is getting a lot of attention as we’re dealing with the US Government and Military. We’re now in talks with other institutions and hospitals that are looking to implement Diaton in telemedicine in their day to day routine, to help prevent risk of COVID-19 exposure to the practitioner and patient. Diaton’s infection prevention is considered invaluable by patients and practitioners, in addition to all appreciated clinical advantages. No need for disposable tonometer tips and anesthetic bottles is appreciated for cost reduction and further reduced chance of infection spread.
