Transpalpebral and Non-Corneal Tonometer Pen Diaton Featured at XXX Congress of The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ESCRS meeting in Milan, Italy!
Unique non-corneal Tonometer Diaton http://www.tonometerDiaton.com , which allows to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) through the eyelid and sclera, unlike others that obtain IOP through cornea is featured at XXX Congress of The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ESCRS meeting in Milan, Italy. Unlike Goldmann tonometry which is based on the Imbert–Fick law and is effected by CCT and other corneal parameters and corneal diseases, where small area of the membrane is flattened to measure pressure of the internal fluid. Evidence shows that variations in CCT may greatly influence Goldmann tonometry reading. Parameters such as membrane elasticity, rigidity and other biomechanical properties can influence the accuracy of the intraocular pressure readings.
Diaton tonometry solves most of the corneal issues by implementing Newton’s Second Law and a Ballistic principle to obtain IOP. Readings with Diaton Tonometer are taken over the upper eyelid, at the tarsus and over the sclera, not the cornea.
Recent clinical study “Comparison of Accuracy of Diaton Transpalpebral Tonometer Versus Goldmann Applanation Tonometer, Dynamic Contour Tonometer and Ocular Response Analyzer “ concluded: “Transpalpebral Tonometry is an accurate method of IOP measurement that is also independent from the biomechanical characteristics of cornea. It can be recommended for IOP measurements of patients diagnosed with glaucoma including those cases where cornea pathology or cornea characteristics have been altered”.
Diaton Tonometry is a revolutionary approach to measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) THROUGH THE EYELID and OVER THE SCLERA – no contact with the cornea, no anesthesia or sterilization is required. BiCOM's pen-like, hand-held, portable device is perfect for measuring eye pressure and helps ophthalmologists and optometrists in diagnosis and prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma. This ophthalmic tonometer device is irreplaceable for mass glaucoma screenings.
Diaton Tonometer is intended for use by Inpatient & Outpatient Clinics such as Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, Nursing & Elderly Homes, General / Family & Specialty Practitioners as well as Ophthalmologists and Optometrists.
Major Benefits of Diaton Tonometer:
- No contact with the cornea (only upper eyelid)
- No anesthesia drops
- No risk of infecting
- No consumables (no need to purchase tips/covers..etc.,)
- No sterilization
- Painless + Easy to use

Founded in 1991, the ESCRS is Europe's leading organisation for cataract and refractive surgeons and is at the forefront of developments in anterior segment surgery. The society currently has 4,000 members from over 90 different countries worldwide. The ESCRS offers a unique forum for discussion and learning which ensures that international expertise is shared by ophthalmologists all over Europe.
The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons evolved from the European Intraocular Implant Club which was established in 1981. The Society is administered by the ESCRS Board, a Board of Ophthalmologists elected by its members. The ESCRS staff based in Dublin, Ireland, are responsible for the organisation of the Society's day-to-day activities.
