In a collaborative Russian-German study was conducted in the eye clinic in Munich, Germany. The subject of the study was the clinical use and the reliability of modern transpalpebral transscleral tonometry in patients with refraction anomaly before and after keratophotorefractive surgery.
IOP measurements were carried out with transpalpebral diaton tonometer and Goldmann Applanation Tonometer (GAT).
In consequence of the study central corneal thickness (CCT) corrected GAT IOP values before and after corneal surgery differ from each other, while diaton tonometry values remain stable. In the whole group, CCT corrected GAT and transpalpebral IOP-values were in good correlation.
The study confirms the reliability and advantages of the clinical application of transpalpebral transscleral tonometry in cases when using contact corneal tonometry is impossible:
corneal pathology
viral infection
“dry eye” syndrome
allergic response
laser refractive corneal interference
