New York-based DevelopAll Inc., brought to market a new way to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) through the upper eyelid. The Diaton digital, handheld tonometer is an innovative medical device that provides a non-invasive way of measuring intraocular pressure (IOP).

Unlike traditional tonometers, it does not require corneal contact with the cornea, which eliminates concerns surrounding corneal variability, scratches, and viral transmission.

The handheld, portable device is FDA-approved, requires no anesthesia, sterilization, or calibration, and can be used with patients wearing contact or scleral lenses. The tonometer is particularly useful for patients with corneal pathology or hardware in the cornea, strong blink reflexes, or who have undergone refractive surgery, among others.

The tonometer captures measurements by resting onto the eyelid as it is lowered, providing an average reading of IOP. It’s based on Newton’s second law of motion, which states that the acceleration of an object is dependent on the net force acting on the object and the mass of the object.

Numerous clinical trials and publications recently covered this innovative tonometry technology.

A recent article published in Ophthalmology Management Magazine reviewed the advantages and benefits of this trans-scleral and transpalpebral tonometry technology in their article with testimonials from prominent glaucoma and cornea specialists: Ref: https://www.ophthalmologymanagement.com/issues/2023/march-2023/spotlight-on-technology-amp;-technique
