Transpalpebral Diaton Tonometer to be Featured at ARVO 2014, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Orlando FL

BiCOM Inc is proud to present Translapebral Tonometer Diaton to over 11,000 visitors of ARVO the largest and most respected eye and vision research organization in the world http://www.arvo.org .  Diatons unique through the eyelid and sclera abilities open up new opportunities for vision researchers to quicker find cure for glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness worldwide.

DIATON Tonometer provides reliable measurements and makes it possible to diagnose glaucoma in its early stages, allowing to devise an appropriate care and treatment plan.  DIATON is effective in obtaining IOP measurements for many challenging patient populations, including: those with chronic conjunctivitis, erosions, edema and corneal dimness; people who have undergone corneal surgeries; and immobilized patients and children. Also, patients do not need to remove their contact lenses.

"As a Cornea-Refractive trained specialist, I encounter many situations where Goldmann readings are inherently inaccurate–like post-LASIK, in cases of corneal edema, scarring, post-keratoprosthesis or transplant.
In such cases, it's both invaluable and reassuring to have the Diaton device available to measure IOP that's independent of corneal pathology", – said Emil W. Chynn, MD, owner of Park Avenue SafeSight, NY

Major Benefits of Diaton Tonometer:

  • No contact with the cornea (only upper eyelid)
  • No anesthesia drops
  • No risk of infecting or scratching cornea
  • No consumables (no need to purchase replacement tips/covers..etc.,)
  • No sterilization
  • No pachymetry needed (no need to purchase pachymeter)
  • No daily calibration needed
  • Handheld / Portable + Easy to use

Diaton Tonometry is a revolutionary Non-Corneal approach to measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) THROUGH THE EYELID and over Sclera – no contact with the cornea, no anesthesia or sterilization is required. BiCOM's pen-like, hand-held, portable device is perfect for measuring eye pressure and helps ophthalmologists and optometrists in diagnosis and prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma. This ophthalmic device is irreplaceable for mass glaucoma screenings.

Unlike Goldmann tonometry which is based on the Imbert–Fick law and is effected by CCT and other corneal parameters and corneal diseases, where small area of the membrane is flattened to measure pressure of the internal fluid.  Evidence shows that variations in CCT may greatly influence Goldmann tonometry reading.  Parameters such as membrane elasticity, rigidity and other biomechanical properties can influence the accuracy of the intraocular pressure readings.

Diaton tonometry solves most of the corneal issues by implementing Newton’s Second Law and a Ballistic principle to obtain IOP.  Readings with Diaton Tonometer are taken over the upper eyelid, at the tarsus and over the sclera, not the cornea.
